Anatoly Basin, born in Leningrad in 1936, is both an artist and an architect. He studied at the Leningrad Radio-Technical School and later graduated from the Architectural Department of the Leningrad State Institute of Engineering and Architecture. His artistic development was significantly influenced by his mentor, Osip Sidlin, whose teachings shaped Basin’s distinctive style.
Basin’s work explores philosophical and mystical themes, with a focus on dark, somber tones from which forms like female figures and still-life subjects emerge. His art is seen as a reflection of inner consciousness rather than an imitation of reality. In addition to his artistic career, Basin is known for his written works and active participation in exhibitions worldwide. He has lived and worked in both St. Petersburg and Jerusalem.
